Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau (Alaska)

This beautiful photograph was sent in by Simone from  My Journey.

It is a picture of Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, Alaska (USA).  The Mendenhall Glacier is one of almost 40 glaciers originating from the Juneau Ice Fields and is the most accessible glacier in the US. Simone visited Juneau as part of her solo drive from Canada to Alaska in July 2013.
You’ll find more about her glacier and bear experience here.

The blue color of the glacier is not photoshopped, in fact, it is due to a unique cristalline structure that absorbs and reflects light.

On her blog My Journey, Simone combines her passion for travel, photography, history and nature. She is originally from Germany, now British and currently living in Canada.  In five years or so, she is planning to sell everything, buy a motor home and tour the world.
